Classic films don’t end when the credits roll.
They stay with us—in the questions they raise, the performances we replay, and the ideas we keep returning to. Classic Film Chatter was created from that simple belief: that the best movies are meant to be talked about.
Created by award-winning filmmaker and film historian John Mulholland, Classic Film Chatter is a multi-platform project dedicated to exploring the enduring power of classic cinema through conversation. What began as a series of recorded discussions has grown into a broader experience that brings together books, an upcoming streaming channel, and curated products designed to deepen how audiences engage with film.
At the heart of Classic Film Chatter is dialogue. Each book in the series captures thoughtful, lively conversations between Mulholland and collaborators, examining films not just as entertainment, but as reflections of culture, politics, and human behavior.
The first volume, Classic Film Chatter: Politics in Film, explores how Hollywood has shaped—and been shaped by—ideas of power, leadership, and public life. Through discussion and analysis, the series invites readers to see familiar films in new ways and to recognize the ideas working beneath the surface.
Classic Film Chatter is expanding into an upcoming streaming channel that will bring the films discussed in the books directly to audiences. Viewers will be able to watch classic titles alongside optional text-based commentary drawn from the conversations—recreating the experience of shared discussion in real time, or choosing to simply watch and reflect.
Additional original programming will further extend the experience, offering short-form insights and new perspectives on film history.
The Classic Film Chatter store brings the brand into everyday life. From books to coffee and teas, to apparel, each offering is designed to enhance the ritual of watching, thinking, and talking about film. Whether it’s a morning read, an evening screening, or the conversation that follows, the experience continues beyond the screen.
Classic films are more than artifacts of another era. They are living works—shaped by their time, but still shaping ours. They reflect how societies understand power, identity, and storytelling itself.
Classic Film Chatter exists to keep that conversation going.
Watch. Sip. Talk. Wear.
